Yoga
Yoga as it is known today in the West, is based on Hatha Yoga which involves the control of the body and mind through physical postures, breathing exercises and relaxation. Sally teaches both Hatha Yoga and Power Yoga styles.
Power Yoga is a more intense, athletic and challenging type of Yoga. It is a sequence of postures which becomes a continuous choreographed movement, where one posture flows into the next using certain connecting movements.
One of the most important aspects of Yoga's physical practice is heat. Several techniques are performed throughout the class to create and maintain heat so that the body becomes hot and sweaty. Performing these techniques helps to focus and concentrate the mind and the heat allows more stretch of the muscles and increased opening and loosening of the joints without the risk of straining or hurting.
Yoga is a very therapeutic and purifying practice resulting in a healthier, stronger, fitter body. Regular practice builds strength and stamina and increases the suppleness of the joints and muscles. Through the concentration techniques it also promotes a more balanced emotional temperament. The mind becomes clearer, calmer and focused and mental faculties such as memory and concentration are improved.
Yoga is uplifting and energising and can be practised by anyone who does not have a serious physical disability.
